How Tula Started In 1989, Tula's founder was living in Mexico and bought a wide brimmed palm hat for gardening. She came to love this hat, and upon meeting and talking with local artisans, Tula Hats was born. They have a strong partnership with their artisans, who have been proudly making palm hats for over four centuries. Tula's Purpose Tula hats is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation. This means that they uphold the highest standards of producing products. It means that they care deeply about more than just the bottom line, they care about the people involved in the process. It means they know their workers, they provide safe and good working conditions, fair wages, and care about their environmental impact. Materials Tula hats are made from tightly woven palm. Palm is harvested twice a year in Mexico, in the traditional manner, making it a sustainably sourced material. The natural slight variation in colour and texture among palm causes each hat to be unique.
